Baby, marriage, Kitgum and sickness

Hey! Long time, no speak. I am noticing that more time passes between each blog post, but I will do my best to keep the blog going all the way until april.

The headline for the past week: baby fever! Oh yeah, last friday it was time for Junior Eluku to come in to the world. We were expecting a girl, but it turned out to be a boy so the little guy is still lacking a name. (Edit: I found out earlier today, his name is Caleb) Anyhow, very fun to become an uncle ;)

Giving birth is a big event down here. Family rush in to help, and since friday various relatives of Michael and Immaculate have been living in our house, helping out with the chores that need to be done, so that the fresh parents have more time to spend with the baby.

In other news, we attended a wedding on saturday. It was a so-called "traditional marriage", which means there is a lot of shouting, acting (with the bride and groom playing the main roles), music, dancing and fun. That is, it was not very fun for me and Håkon, since the whole thing went down in the local language, and we couldn't understand anything that was happening... We still don't know the bride and groom, and the only reason we were there, was that Michael was one of the MC's, or toastmasters. It was a good experience, but I don't think I will attend too many of these traditional marriages.

On monday it was time for a road trip. The people at CRO had invited us to come for a resettlement, which is when that one of the street children is united with his family. Of course, we were very excited about experiencing this, so we arrived at CRO at 8:30 sharp. We had been told that we had to come at this time, and that we would leave immediately after this. So, when the clock stroke 10 we were all sitting in CRO's Toyota pick-up truck, ready for a road trip to Kitgum, which lies in the northern part of Uganda.

After driving back and forth in Lira for a while picking up various random people, we ended up with seven people inside the car and four people in the back. In other words, a true african road trip. After about three hours of driving (a very bumpy ride) we arrived in Kitgum, only to find out that ALL the adults of the boy's village were attending a party in town and wouldn't come back before late in the evening. We couldn't leave the boy in the village all by himself, so there was really only one thing to do: go back home. It was sad that we weren't able to resettle the boy, but we had a nice trip. Road trip is always fun, no matter how pointless it might turn out to be.

Today is a day for restitution for this guy. The night before yesterday Eivind woke up in the middle of the night and felt a little gewey in his stomach. Long story short: since then I have spent about 4-5 hours on the hole (our toilet), vomited twice and simply rotting in my bed. However, I'm getting better. I have even eaten a banana and drunk a cup of tea for breakfast. Yeah!

That was my week in short. A little PS in the end: comments are always fun. I wish you a good day. I'll see you in about a week or so ;)
