In Uganda! (english)

Drøyt... (this word loses all it's meaning if I translate it, so I'll just leave it like this :P)

I have finally arrived in Uganda. My blog has been quiet during my first days in Uganda, and the simple reason is that we have not had internet until now. Since thursday evening Malin, Maria, Håkon and I have been staying at a guest house in Kampala. It's nice... I have to give some honour to the Focus-team in Uganda, who have made the transgression to the Ugandan culture a lot easier than it could have been. We have had very light program these first few days, and most of our time has been spent getting used to the fact that we are actually in Uganda...

It's safe to say that a lot of things are different in Uganda. First of all I have to mention the traffic. I have never seen a more unorganized chaos in my life! I guees there is only one rule in the traffic of Uganda: Bring yourself safely from A to B, preferably without injuring anyone. Dangerous driving (in Norwegian eyes, of course) and passings of <10cm is very normal. On top of this, we have the boda-bodas. Directly translated to Norwegian, this word means "motorbike-taxis with the sole purpose of making the confusion almost complete for poor, lost white people in Africa". What makes the confusion completely complete is this: They drive on the left side of the road. Go figure...

Different thing #2 is the weather. Luckily we arrived in the middle of winter, so it does not get any warmer than around 22-24 degrees. In the shade. In the sun, of course, it is much warmer... This regards Kampala. It is much hotter in Lira. Yaaay...

But I have to tell you that I have not experienced that much of a culture shock these first few days. Except from the fact that I feel like a goldfish in a monkey's cage, I am actually doing pretty OK. Well, at least physically I am OK. Although, I am tired all the time, and I have not done a number 2 since I left Norway. So, maybe I am not doing very good physically either. Maybe I am in culture shock after all? Yeah, I think so. But that's not a problem. I can manage ;)

Here are some pictures that my teammate Håkon has shot:
