The first blog post of my life!

(Here is the english translation to my first blog post. I'll try to write all/most of my blog posts this year in both Norwegian and English. English, so that my non-norwegian friends can be able to read my blog; and Norwegian, so that my Norwegian friends won't get superbored reading my blog :P)

Oh yeah, Saxen has got himself a blog. I know, right. Crazyyyy... The main purpose of this blog is to keep curious Norwegian/international souls updated on how my life is going in Uganda, "The Pearl of Africa".

In case you didn't know, this year I am a student at Hald International Centre in Mandal. This school year consists of three parts: a fall course of 6 weeks, an internship of 6 weeks and a spring course of 8 weeks. I am having my internship in Lira, Uganda. Øystein, my teacher, likes to say that I am going to the "bush"... So, October 6th, it's "Bye bye, washing machine and regular stove. Hello, handwashing clothes and a stove made of cow poop."

While it is pretty scary to know that I am going to live "the simple life" for 6 months, it is also very exciting. I think every Norwegian would benefit from letting go of the materialism that we love so much. As I often say: "The one who has much, rejoices less over much. The one who has little, rejoices more over little." It is this joy that I want to see, learn from and bring back to Norway.

That was my first blog post. Stay tuned for more antics from Uganda!
